Burning Alerts

The National Weather Service is asking people to refrain from any type of outdoor burning during this windy weather.

Conditions are ripe for fire to get out of hand in seconds and cause untold damages to property and lives.

Cigarette butts thrown out while driving can also escalate into a major fire very quickly.

St. Gertrude’s Catholic Church

The next Altar Society meeting will be Monday, March 25, at 7 p.m.

On March 23 the third-grade class at St. Gertrude’s will go to Springfield, Illinois, where they will receive the Sacraments of First Communion and Confirmation at the Cathedral in Springfield.

The annual Chicken Dinner will be held Sunday, June 2, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

This will be mainly carryout, but limited dine-in seating will be available.

The menu will be: ½ chicken, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, slaw, cake, tea and water. The cost will be $15.

Grantfork UCC

The annual Appreciation dinner has been rescheduled for April 14 following the church service.

It will be the same menu as before with the exception of German potato salad instead of mashed potatoes.

The United For Others Young adult group will sell pie at the Highland VFW Fish Fry on April 5, 4 -7 p.m.

Proceeds will be used to help the community.

Grantfork Easter Egg Hunt

On Saturday, March 30, the annual Grantfork Easter Egg Hunt sponsored by UCC United For Others (UFO) will take place at 1 p.m. at the Grantfork UCC Educational Building.

Included in the fun-filled day will be prizes for the children’s games, snacks and a special visit with the Easter Bunny.

Bring your baskets and a camera to catch those special moments.
