Ben Callahan

A candlelight vigil will be held in memory of Ben Callahan, the 10 year old Branford resident who lost his life in a tragic accident Friday. Our hearts and condolences go out to his parents, brothers and those who loved and knew Ben.

The vigil is scheduled for Sunday night at 7:30 on the Branford Green.

Those who may have candles are asked to bring them, as there may be a shortage.

A fundraising page for the family has been set up, you can find the link here https://www.mealtrain.com/trains/821v65/donate/.

Ben was active in football and athletics. His jersey was #2. His Hornet family sent in the following:

Dear Branford Hornet Family and Community,

We are deeply saddened to announce that on Friday 7/7/17 we have lost a wonderful child in our community. Ben Callahan just 10 years old was an outstanding athlete and he excelled in just about anything he did. He had a love and a passion for Football, Basketball and Lacrosse, he pushed himself self to the max in each sport and would often wear his heart on his sleeve like a " true warrior"as he is often called.

Ben also excelled in the classroom and was talented in so many ways. He loved instruments, music, cooking for his family and he enjoyed helping his dad multi task at work. Ben should labeled as a humanitarian. He would spend time helping anyone that needed help, whether it be a neighbor, family member friend or his fellow campers,he was there to help when you needed him.

Ben was #2 of three boys, Cooper #1 and Scout # 3 these brothers where inseparable! They were always together, the were best of friends. These boys were raised with nothing but love by Dave and Paula and their loving family. Anytime you see them they always had smiles on their faces. They have respect, and love and care for people in general.

The Branford Community lost a great child on Friday but his spirit will reign through each and everyone of us! Ben you will always be remembered as a friend to all and #2 to all of us. You have touched so many people in your short time here on earth. The Branford Football community and Callahan Family would like to invite all to come to the Branford Town Green Tomorrow evening Sunday at 7:30pm for a Candle light Vigil to celebrate the life of Ben Callahan #2.

To all who knew and loved Ben and his family, as a mom of a 12 yr old girl in North Haven....my heart hurts for you beyond comprehension. I just hope you know that when the time comes when you can sit and read all of these notes...we don't know each other but from a mom to a mom my heart is broken . My hope and wish is that you will find comfort in the fact that Ben touched people he never even met.
All our love, Gina & Baylee xoxo

As a mother to two boys 16 and 12, I cannot begin to imagine the pain young Ben's parents are feeling. My heart breaks and my thoughts have been on this tragedy all day. This wonderful little boy shared his light with his family and community for just a short while but in a very big way and we will make sure that light will remain burning always. May the Lord comfort you and keep you during your time of grief and may your memories and the love this child brought into your lives each day warm your thoughts.
