Cade Davies' Game Winning Shot And Everything To Know About It

CUYAHOGA HEIGHTS, OH– Cuyahoga Heights 6’2 senior combo guard Cade Davies would propel his team to a victory over Chagrin Valley Conference opponent the Hawken Hawks 42-39 in heroic fashion off a game-winning 3-point shot with just under 20 seconds left in regulation. A shot heard around the high school basketball community.

Davies would finish the night with 22 points and 5 rebounds, 1 assist and would go 4 for 8 from behind the 3-point stripe, a solid night for the senior who is known as a long range sharp shooter for the Red Wolves. During an interview he would give some insight on the shot and what was going through his mind as it all played out.

“I knew as soon as they missed we had an opportunity to get down the floor,” said Davies. He would go on to detail the moment he received the pass at mid-court adding, “I spaced out to my spot and I knew that I would have an opportunity. I had nailed a 3-pointer two minutes prior in the same area so I was looking to get back to that spot.” he said.

The Shot

Once he received the forward pass from his teammate Braylan McClardy he went on to reply, “My teammate Braylan brought the ball up the floor and I knew they would collapse on him and leave me with the space. As I caught the ball, I knew this my chance and I took full advantage and knew it was going in as soon as it left my hands.” he expressed.

The Tournament

That would seal the conference win for the wolves as they prepare for the OHSAA State Tournament, with a home game as the 6th seed in Div. III (Northeast 4) March 1st playing the winner of the West Salem Northwestern/Mineral Ridge game. Davies spoke on preparation going into tournament.

“Obviously we want to go as far as we can and we know it’s not gonna be easy. We had a lot of great teams in our district.” he said. Also adding, “But I believe in our team and we continue to develop each and every week.” explained Davies.

College Interest

A 6’2 combo guard with long range shooting abilities should be idea for college programs, Davies says he has interest from small schools in and outside the state, “I have a few places in mind within the state but I could end up out of state with the connections I’ve made in the past six months.” he said. Playing at the highest level is ideal for Davies, “My overall goal is to play at the highest level I can, but I would like to also stay in the state as well.” said Davies.

An interesting situation as the season unfolds with the excitement around the game winning buzzer shot Davies should draw more interest.
