This morning Branford Police arrested Manuel Aviles, age 31, of New Haven in reference to a carjacking which occurred yesterday afternoon.
On December 4th, 2019 at approximately 3:21pm, Aviles was involved in an evading motor vehicle accident which occurred on North Main St. near the intersection of North Ivy St. Aviles continued westbound on North Main St. causing an additional accident on West Main St. near Commercial Parkway, his vehicle then traveled off the roadway into the parking lot of Starbucks parking lot, causing damage to two additional unoccupied vehicles. Following the crash, Aviles ran from his personally owned vehicle and approached an occupied Red Nissan Altima on Commercial Parkway where he pulled the male operator from the vehicle and stole the vehicle fleeing the area southbound onto I-95.
Aviles was then involved in additional carjackings on I-95 prior to fleeing northbound and crashing a different vehicle in the area of I-95 Exit 55. Aviles was taken into custody by Connecticut State Police and held on numerous charges.
Branford Police arrested Aviles today at New Haven Superior Court charging him with Robbery Involving an Occupied Motor Vehicle (Carjacking), 53a-136a; Robbery 3rd Degree, 53a-136; Larceny 3rd Degree, 53a-123; Assault 3rd Degree, 53a-61 Criminal Trover 2nd Degree, 53a-126b and Breach of Peace; 53a-181 in addition to several motor vehicle violations. No injuries were sustained as a result of the motor vehicle accidents on Route 1 in Branford.
