Superintendent Hamlet Hernandez informed parents today that the principals at Walsh Intermediate School and Mary T. Murphy Elementary will be swapping positions effective July 1.

Robin Goeler, currently the principal at Walsh, will take over Murphy, and Raenne Reynolds will become the new principal at Walsh.

“I continually strive to consider how best to assign our talented staff in order to enhance our education programs and maximize educational opportunities for all our students,” said Hernandez. He continued that he has “made this decision in order to best serve the educational interests of our school district.”

More to come.

Making this change is ludicrous! Robin Goeler is an outstanding principal who understands the complexities of middle school students and how to transition staff/students to a new building. There seems to be more to the story on this one. Many of the new admin hired by Hernandez are connected to him from his former districts/friends. Moving Mr Goeler is NOT the best thing for students.

I find this somewhat hunorous, especially since there were incidents, recently, at the middle school involving the sale of drugs and paraphanelia, and I heard about it from my 8th grader, not the school. In addition, the bullying incidents of last year that went mainly unhandled.....well... maybe new blood will be helpful.

This is the best thing possible for all stakeholders (students, teachers and parents). The administration you are gaining at Walsh is top notch. Mrs. Reynolds is a wealth of knowledge. Being an educator for 18 years some under Mrs. Reynolds I know first hand that the kids are first in the eyes of Mrs. Reynolds. Her experience in all areas of Social Development, Literacy and School Improvement initiatives are very impressive. She started as a classroom teacher, she is a parent and she Puts Kids First!!! Walsh should be honored to have her.

Agreed!! She is truely amazing. She will be missed.

How can you say such when you have never attended school with Robin as a principal? The overall story may seem green on the outside, but coming from someone who was just at Walsh a few years ago, once you get inside the school, life becomes red. No need to elaborate ... Just ask around.

Not sure of all the specifics to this story, as more details will be emerging. However, history tells us that one thing is clear: if Hernandez and Krause are involved, any ensuing actions will be more motivated by politics and CYA than by the real best interests of the students and parents.

These employees of OUR town should tell the complete truth here.. This move is highly irregular and probably a first for Branford. There's been a lot of issues at Walsh so the average idiot can probably assume this is a CYA move.. Let's be real here instead of creating millions more questions. However if he's best reassigning "talent" I guess that means current Walsh principal isn't doing well with older kids but can with younger??? Mmm..

Guest

And Hernandez puts him at Murphy. He would never dream of putting him at Tisko.

Guest

If they are both doing a good job (which we know one isn't) then why the switch? And if the move is because one of them isn't performing up to standards, then why is that person being put with a new group of our children to be mismanaged? Now I guess we'll have to get our info from 4th graders about what is going on in Murphy

Why not move the Assistant Principal into the position until the issues could be resolved ? Over 50 million of taxpayer money and half the town budget and all we get is mediocrity.Maybe spending 80 million on a new facility should be looked at once more,a new administration would be far less costly.

Please- a new building is overdue. Spend a day in a building with no walls, poor air quality and you will have some empathy.

Here is yet another fine example of the "Superintendent Shuffle", executed by someone who has vast experience in lies and half truths. Todays lesson seems to be putting lipstick on a pig. But no one complains to the BOE at their meetings, so they just go about "business" as usual.

Guest

What are the financial implications of the swap. Will Mr Goeler's salary decrease given a smaller school, less staff, less students? What is the increase provided to Mrs Reynolds? Would like to see that data be made available to the public.

Guest

lol.... This kind of information will never come willingly from the BOE under Krause and Hernandez. To get any information of meaning out of these people, you'd have to have a court order, a loaded gun, or both.

Guest

Just another case of the BOE sweeping stuff under the rug to protect their own.

Guest

What a joke! I feel sorry for parents of Murphy children.

Guest

It's all a joke . Nicely wrapped up in pretty paper . Like a vacation resort phamlet, " water views" but once you get there, the only water view is the toilet ! Let's not even begin to think this could be related to the kid who got kicked in the head last year and suffered a concussion and was yelled racial slurs but......... As CT states " bullying is defined as " acts" not an ACT! CT is the only state ( New York, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont) that defines bullying as ACTs. Plural . We are all on the same leaky ship !!!

Guest

The "joke" is the "leadership" of Chairman Krause and Superintendent Hernandez. They simply don't deal with issues in any kind of meaningful way, probably because they don't feel they have to. And the Jewish kid that the previous post refers to, let's not forget that Hernandez was quoted as saying that the bully said "kick the Jew", NOT "kill the Jew, as if that makes any real difference. Thanks for the clarification Hamlet.

I am puzzled by the proposed switch of our Middle School principal and the principal of Mary T. Murphy elementary school. Mr Goeler has served the students (and parents) of Branford with distinction for over 25 years, working with students at what is widely recognized as their most challenging age in a building that is far from optimal. During his tenure at Walsh, he has been tireless in his quest to guide students through the difficult adolescent years, providing them with an excellent middle school experience and his leadership has been instrumental in creating a rich academic environment with outstanding social and emotional support for children at a time when they are most vulnerable developmentally. He has been a staunch advocate of professional development, both his own, and that of his staff and continues to be a "hands on" leader who sets an example of hard work, citizenship, and strong character for students and staff alike. With the construction of the new middle school approaching, and presumably incorporating Mr. Goeler's input, one must seriously question the wisdom and rationale for exchanging his lengthy experience and expertise as a middle school leader for that of an elementary school principal who however capable she may be, has never worked at Walsh. In the words of Ricky Ricardo, Lucille Ball's spouse on I LOVE LUCY, Superintendent Hernandez, "You've got some 'splaining to do!"

Guest

Hernandez, as a guy who makes more than $200,000 plus benefits from our town, certainly has a lot of " 'splainin" to do for what is, at very best, a confusing and questionable move. As does Krause for allowing it. However, if history is any indicator, the chances of us getting a real explanation for this move is about 0%.

Guest

Maybe Hamlet could do another swap for tomorrow,Connecticut weather for Florida weather.

Guest

Makes a lot more sense than swapping Principals!!

Guest

The best thing for Hamlet to "swap" would be his lies for good, old-fashioned truth

Guest

It's well known that when you stir it, it still stinks. The real question is why is Hernandez and Krause stirring?

Guest

There's gotta be a cause and effect relationship between this move and the recent problems within BPS, particularly at Walsh. Why try to hide what, at least on the surface, seems fairly obvious?

Guest

Whether you are in Branford Bryam or Bridgeport you will never ever get a truthful answer. I asked the superintendent at my old town twice if an attendee at a school meeting was independent. I was told twice yes. I went on the state website for medical professionals and lookie there. Medical advisor to the town BOE. I printed it. Stood up in the meeting asked him a third time and gave him the out. And then called him a liar in front of all paper reports channel 12 and parents town govt reps. BOE think they are above the law.

Back story is that the principal at Walsh is the only one to stand up to Ham-Handed Hernandez. Hernandez then made it his mission to retaliate for Goeler having testicular fortitude. Hernandez told Goeler that if he didn't retire that he would move him to Walsh. Goeler said go ahead and voila.. Incidentally Hernandez spent years trying to push out Anna Puglia as well. She was able to hang on until she retired on her terms. Hamlet Hernandez is a snake in the grass and a vindictive man. Many teachers are leaving because of him.
