Branford’s Associate Superintendent is leaving the district to accept a position in Westport.

Dr. Anthony Buono will be announced as the new assistant superintendent of Westport Schools. His start date is set for July 1.

Buono was promoted to his current position by Branford schools superintendent Hamlet Hernandez after serving as principal of Mary T. Murphy school. He was charged with implementing teacher evaluation programs and handling curriculum issues.

A career in education was a major change for Buono since he first entered the workforce with a degree in Economics and 5 years as a stockbroker.

In notifying school administrators, Hernandez stated that “his proven track record of leadership, curriculum and instruction expertise, meaningful professional development, and system’s development is known throughout the State.”

Glad he's gone. But did the board of ed have to give him a special recognition chair? Costing more than $500? And did he work for both his new job and his old job in June? Wonder how many hours he put in in Branford in June seeing as he had already started his job in Westport.
