Branford, CT, –Robert J. Alvine, President, Premier Subaru, presented Melissa Simoni, Outreach Coordinator of Camp Rising Sun, with a check for $46,313 this morning in the dealership’s new facility showroom in Branford. The donation represented the proceeds from the eighth annual “Share the Love” event, in which anyone that purchased or leased a new Subaru could make a $250 donation to one of four national charities – ASPCA, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Meals on Wheels Association of America, the National Park Foundation – or a fifth local charity for their customers to support. Premier Subaru selected Camp Rising Sun as their “hometown charity” for the 2018-19 campaign for the fifth year in a row. Total contributions from Premier Subaru to Camp Rising Sun exceed $250,000 over the last five years.
“Thanks to Bob Alvine and the entire Premier Subaru Team, we will be able to provide an awesome summer camp experience to even more kids with cancer,” said Ms. Simoni. “Being a small volunteer organization without a national sponsor, fundraising is always a challenge. Bob and his team’s hard work will help put smiles on the faces of our campers this summer.”
“I am honored to participate with such an organization. An organization that brings smiles to brave children and their families,” remarked Mr. Alvine. “We are duly proud to have raised this money and deeply thank our customers and employees.”
Also attending the check presentation was special guest Mr. Tomomi Nakamura, Representative Director of the Board, President and CEO of Subaru Corporation, based in Tokyo, Japan.
“Share the Love” ran from November 15, 2018 to Jan. 2, 2018 and was expected to donate up to $25 million over the course of the campaign nationwide. In the last eleven years, Subaru of America has donated over $140 million to different charities. In 2013, Subaru of America gave retailers the option to add a local charity. Premier Subaru has built upon that, being, one of the very few in the country that also matches the dollars raised through Subaru of America.
Camp Rising Sun was designed to provide a safe nurturing environment to children ages 5 through 17 who have been diagnosed with cancer. Camp Week takes place at Camp Jewell YMCA in Colebrook, CT. A number of “Senior Campers” have become “Leaders in Training” to help with the younger campers and plan activities. Camp Rising Sun has been around since 1983 and has grown to over 100 campers! The dollars provided by Premier Subaru, under the most recent Share the Love program, will support more than 40 campers this year.
